Connecting to Penn State from an ISP using Vista 64bit

Connecting to Penn State from an ISP using Vista 64bit. This is a short term solution to resolve an issue with Vista 64 bit. Important Note: This is not intend to work past the 08/09 Academic year. It is only a solution for Vista 64 bit.

1. On the Start Menu, select Network option, and then select Network and Sharing Center.

2. On the left hand side, choose Set up a connection or network.

3. In the Setup a connection or network window, scroll down and select Connect to a workplace.

4. Select the first option; Use my Internet connection (VPN)

5. Input the following two pieces of information:

Internet Address: vpn.aset.psu.edu
Destination Name: isptopsu

6. In addition, Select Don’t connect now; just set it up so I can connect later

7. Input your Penn State Access ID and password. Then select Create.

8. Do Not select Connect Now. Select Close (lower right hand corner) instead.

9. Back under the Network and Sharing Center, select Manage Network Connections.

10. Right click on the isptopsu connection and select Properties and Security.

11. Under the Security tab, choose Advanced and select Settings.

12. Data encryption should be set to Optional encryption .

13. Allow these protocols should have the following checked: Unencrypted password (PAP)

14. Select OK.

15. A dialog box may appear regarding the selection of PAP and/or CHAP. If it appears, select Yes.

16. Under isptopsu properties, select the Networking tab.

17. Under This Connection uses the following items, Uncheck Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) (should be the top option. At the top under Type of VPN, and leave it set to Automatic.

18. Select IPsec Setting.

19. Select: Use preshared key for authentication, and insert psuconnect as the Key:

20. Select OK twice.

Back Under your network connection, right click the isptopsu connection and create a short cut to the desktop. Be sure to close all the networking related windows. Connecting to Penn State:

21. Connect to your currently available non Penn State Network (If you are already connected to a Penn State connection, you can not use the ISP to PSU connection)

22. Double click on the isptopsu connection on the desktop.

23. Insert your Penn State Access ID and password, and select Connect.
