Avaya Communications Manager--How to Change an Announcement
#1 You need to make sure that the phone from where you are going to record has console permissions. At the command line, type “display cos”, then hit enter. A little way down the left-hand side, you’ll see “Console Permissions”; move across to the right to see which Class of Service is tagged “y”. Make sure that the phone has that COS assigned.
#2 You need to make sure that the announcement you want to re-record is not write-protected. Type “cha announcement XXXX”, then hit enter; the last field on the left hand side of the screen says “Protected?”. Make sure that is set to “n”.
#3 You will need to find the feature access code for changing announcements. Type “displ feature”, then hit enter; close to the top of the first page, you will see “Announcement Access Code”. Copy down that code.
Now you are ready to record. The procedure is: Pick up the handset and dial the feature access code—you will hear dial tone—dial the announcement number—you will hear dial tone—dial the digit “1”—you will hear a beep. Record your announcement, then hang up. I would suggest that when you hang up, to press the switch hook button; if you lay the handset back down, the recording will probably pick up the noise of the handset hitting the phone. If you mess up, there’s no going back; you just have to repeat the process.
When you are finished, protect the announcement per the instructions in #2; this will prevent inadvertently recording over a good announcement.
