WEBMAIL - Blocking Specific Email Addresses

Document Actions
Unfortunately, Webmail cannot block specific email addresses at this time.
If it is from an known email address that sending you bothersome messages please contact the Security Office 814-865-9533 or if warranted, the police department

http://www.psu.edu/dept/police/

If it is routine spam, please have a look at our standard instructions:

  • - As rule of thumb, NEVER reply or respond to a spam or any bulk unsolicited commercial email message, even if you want to be removed from their mailing list. Spam messages usually include a link or an email address to be removed from their mailing list, but please be aware that when you reply to a spam note, you are also informing the spammer that your email address is active. This means that your address might be re-used and even sold to other spammers, ultimately increasing the number of junk email messages you will receive.
  • - You can unsubscribe from a number of SPAM email lists from the site below. Please realize that it will NOT unsubscribe your address from all lists, but the volume of your unsolicited mail should decrease after a few weeks: http://www.dmaconsumers.org/optoutform_emps.shtml
  • - Some software clients will also block certain domains. Again, be aware that this is only a partial solution, since you can only block email coming from a person who has already written to you. New "spammers" will not be blocked in this way. For detailed instructions on how you can create filters in different email programs (Eudora, Outlook, etc.), go to this page:
  • - Please note that Webmail has a new spam filtering feature, which will automatically filter spam emails into a Junk folder. No filter system is perfect, please be sure to check that this folder is not filtering good emails. You can also turn this option off on the options screen.
  • - ITS have been doing lot of work in this area:
