Configuring Thunderbird 2.x on Mac OS X for Penn State POP E-mail

Configuring Thunderbird 2.x e-mail for Penn State on Mac OS X.
  1. Launch Thunderbird.
  2. Click on the Tools menu.
  3. Select Account Settings.
  4. Click on Add Account.
  5. Select Email account.
  6. Click on Continue.
  7. Type in your name and email address.
  8. Click on Continue.
  9. Select POP for incoming email server type.
  10. Type in email.psu.edu as your incoming email server.
  11. Type in smtp.psu.edu as your outgoing server.
    Note: if have previously configured an SMTP outgoing mail server, step 11 will not be available. You will be using the previously configured SMTP server for this email account.
  12. Click on Continue.
  13. Type in your Penn State Access Account id for Incoming and Outgoing User Name.
  14. Enter the name you would like to refer to this account.
  15. Verify information shown.
  16. Click Done.
  17. Click on Server Settings in the left pane under the name of the account you just created.
  18. Under Security Settings, click the radio button for SSL.
  19. Click OK.
