This is a brief summary of things you probably want to know about Vista. You Do Not Have to Convert to Vista Microsoft intends to ship Vista to enterprise customers in November 2006, and plans to have Vista available for new PCs customers purchase from PC manufacturers in January of 2007. Microsoft will support Windows XP for years after Vista is released. So you are not forced to convert to Windows Vista.
Significant Problems
Until these are resolved, you should not try using Windows Vista on a Penn State computer.- Cisco VPN doesn't work with Penn State wireless access points.
- Semantec Antivirus only partly works. There seems to be a conflict with Windows Defender.
- Windows Vista will not work with Penn State 802.1x wireless access points.
Hardware Requirements to Run Vista
Bottom line is you probably need to buy a new computer to get the fancy graphics features.Here's a reference site for Vista Hardware guidelines.
There are hardware dependancies built into Vista with specific focus on a hardware security chip called the Trusted Platform Module.
