Creating an X-PSU-Spam-Flag Filter in Outlook 2003

This article describes how to setup the X-PSU-Spam-Flag filter in Outlook 2003 to filter spam email to the Junk folder.

 

  1. Open Outlook.
  2. On the Outlook Tools Menu, click on Rules and Alerts.
  3. In the Rules and Alerts window, click on New Rule.
  4. Choose the Start from a blank rule radio button.
  5. Highlight Check messages when they arrive. This is highlighted by default.
  6. Click on Next at the bottom of the screen.
  7. Scroll down the list of conditions under Step 1 and check the box next to With specific words in the message header.
  8. In the Rule description area (bottom half of window), click on the underlined words specific words.
  9. A new window will open up.
  10. In the Specify words box type, X-PSU-Spam-Flag: YES.
  11. Click on the Add button to the right.
  12. Click OK. The rule should now be updated to indicate the words to filter by.
  13. Click Next.
  14. Place a check mark next to the Move it to the specified folder box.
  15. In the Rule description area, click on Specified folder. A listing of all your mail folders should appear.
  16. Click on the Junk email folder.
          Note: If there is no Junk email folder, please do the following:
    1. Click New.
    2. Under Name type Junk Email.
    3. Click Personal Folders.
    4. Click OK.
    5. Next, click the Junk Email folder you just created.
    6. Click OK.

15.   Click Finish.

16.   Click OK.
