Qualcomm Discontinues Eudora

Document Actions
Qualcomm has announced that they will be releasing the final commercial version of their e-mail software, Eudora. The company plans to end technical support for all "paid" versions of the software in October 2007. The change has been prompted because Qualcomm is moving Eudora to open source development (a type of software that is available to the public free of charge.)

The open source version of Eudora is expected to be released in the first half of 2007 and will be similar to Thunderbird, another popular e-mail client used at Penn State. Since Qualcomm does not plan to support or be affiliated with the new Eudora software, ITS is currently discussing the possibility of providing support for both the original and new open source versions. The University's current contract with Qualcomm will continue to legally enable Penn State community members to have access to the final commercial version of Eudora, and the software will be made accessible at downloads.its.psu.edu in the near future.
