Document Actions
Instructions for installing and using Eudora Mailbox Cleaner to convert your e-mail from Eudora to Thunderbird on Mac OS X.

Note: Before beginning this process you need to have Thunderbird installed and configured on your machine AND all mail clients need to be closed.

  1. Download Eudora Mailbox Cleaner from the Eudora for Macintosh link on the ITS Downloads site at http://downloads.its.psu.edu
  2. Double click on EudoraMailboxCleaner.dmg to open the file in a new window.
  3. Create a new folder named Eudora Conversion in your Applications folder.
  4. Note: if you do not have administrative access to your machine, please see your system administrator.
  5. Next, drag the Eudora Mailbox Cleaner.app and the Tools folder to the new Eudora Mailbox Cleaner folder that you created in the previous step.
  6. Note: Some users may not see the .app file extension. This is normal if you do not have file extensions turned on.
  7. Next, open a new Finder window.
  8. Locate your Eudora Folder , typically located under Documents.
  9. Note: Do NOT select the Eudora application folder.
  10. Highlight the Eudora Folder.
  11. Drag the Eudora Folder over on top of Eudora Mailbox Cleaner.app in the Eudora Conversion folder.
  12. In the Eudora Mailbox Cleaner window select the following:
    1. Import from Eudora
    2. Import to Thunderbird
  13. Note: Import filters will no longer be checked because Eudora Mailbox Cleaner will not import filters.
  14. Click OK.

Eudora Mailbox Cleaner will then proceed to convert your mailboxes. While the conversion process does take some time, we have found that the process works well.

We strongly recommend that you do not delete your mailboxes in Eudora until you have checked the converted files.
