Using LDAP with Eudora
To set up Eudora to use LDAP for searching both name and email fields:
1) Choose Directory Services from the Tools menu.
2) Choose LDAP from the list of protocols listed in the upper-right corner.
3) Click on New Database. (Windows vista users see Note)
4) In the Server Name field, assign a name to the new database (for example, psuLDAP).
5) In the hostname, type ldap.psu.edu.
6) Set the port number to 389.
7) Choose the Search Options tab.
8) Type dc=psu,dc=edu in the Search Base field.
9) Type (| (cn=*^0*)(uid=^0)(psmailid=*^0*)) into the Word-wise Search Filter.
10) Click OK to close the dialog box.
11) In the lower right corner of the screen there is a Databases window.
12) Click the checkbox to select the new LDAP server as your search directory. Note: Make sure that your former search directory is not selected.
Note: On Windows Vista, you cannot set up directory services in Eudora because the New Database button does not work. To activate this button do the following:
1) Under Control Panel, click on User Accounts.
2) Click on Turn User Account control On or Off and uncheck Use User Account Control (UAC).
Now, follow steps 4) through 12) to setup the LDAP database. After you create an LDAP database, you can Turn User Account Control back on (by checking the User Account Control box) and still create or modify your directory services database.
