Import WebMail mailbox into Eudora

Document Actions
Note: With the advent of Webmail 2 in the fall of 2006, Webmail moved to a new file system which is not directly accessible by users.  If you want to copy mail from webmail, send a request to helpdesk@psu.edu to have your Webmail files copied into your PASS space.  Once you have received confirmation that the mailboxes have been copied to your PASS space, take the following steps to import your Webmail mailboxes into Eudora.  New messages received in Webmail after the copy will not be transferred to Eudora.

There are different ways to access your PASS space. You can find a list with detailed information on this page: http://aset.its.psu.edu/ftp/

Once you have accessed your PASS space:

1) Locate the folder "mail" and open it.

2) Copy the mailbox file you need (for instance the mailbox "mymail") to your machine. Make sure that after you download it, you rename it "mymail.mbx" (no quotation marks).

3) Now move this file to C:\mail (the folder you use to store Eudora email). Please note that if your mail is stored in a different folder, you should copy the file there instead.

If you do not know where Eudora stores your mail, click with the RIGHT button of your mouse on your Eudora icon on your desktop and choose "properties" from the menu. In the window that will come up, go to the "shortcut" tab and look in "target" line. You will see something like 'C:\Qualcomm\Eudora\Eudora.exe' and then the name of a directory. That is the directory where your Eudora mail is stored.

4) Delete the "descmap.pce" and "LinkHistory.dat" files from your C:\mail directory (in your local computer, not your PASS space).

5) Start Eudora and pull down the "mailboxes" menu. You should be able to see your "mymail" mailbox there. Click on it to open it and read the messages it contains.
