Configuring dial-up networking for Windows XP

Configuring dial-up networking for Windows XP

Find the dial up number to use:

Visit http://css.psu.edu/internet/dialup/ and select the dial up number suitable for your location.

Setting up a dial-up connection to PSU in Windows XP

  1. Click on the Start button.
  2. Click on  Control Panel
  3. Note: If you do not find Control Panel,  click on Settings and then Control Panel.
  4. Double-click on Network Connections.
  5. Click on Create a new connection on the left hand side menu.
  6. Click Next.
  7. Make sure that Connect to the Internet is chosen and click Next.
  8. Choose Set up my connection manually and click Next.
  9. Choose Connect using a dial-up modem and click Next.
  10.  Type in Penn State in the ISP Name box and click Next.
  11. In the Telephone number box, type the dial up phone number that you obtained from the website above. Click Next.
  12. Type in your PSU user id (for example xyz123) in the User name field.  Type in your account password in both the Password and Confirm Password boxes. Click Next.
  13. Check the box near the bottom for Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop.
  14. Click Finish.

To connect to PSU:

  1. Double-click on the Penn State icon on the desktop.
  2. Click on Dial. Please note that your PSU user id will automatically appear next to User Name. The password you entered previously is also automatically saved.
