Configuring dial-up networking for Windows XP
Find the dial up number to use:
Visit http://css.psu.edu/internet/dialup/ and select the dial up number suitable for your location.Setting up a dial-up connection to PSU in Windows XP
- Click on the Start button.
- Click on Control Panel.
- Double-click on Network Connections.
- Click on Create a new connection on the left hand side menu.
- Click Next.
- Make sure that Connect to the Internet is chosen and click Next.
- Choose Set up my connection manually and click Next.
- Choose Connect using a dial-up modem and click Next.
- Type in Penn State in the ISP Name box and click Next.
- In the Telephone number box, type the dial up phone number that you obtained from the website above. Click Next.
- Type in your PSU user id (for example xyz123) in the User name field. Type in your account password in both the Password and Confirm Password boxes. Click Next.
- Check the box near the bottom for Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop.
- Click Finish.
Note: If you do not find Control Panel, click on Settings and then Control Panel.
To connect to PSU:
- Double-click on the Penn State icon on the desktop.
- Click on Dial. Please note that your PSU user id will automatically appear next to User Name. The password you entered previously is also automatically saved.
