Oracle Connector for Outlook v10.1.3

Setup instructions for installing Oracle Connector for Outlook v10.1.3 on POP3 accounts

The instructions in this document are for installing Oracle connector for Outlook v10.1.3.09 with POP3 type email accounts. If you have an IMAP account these instructions are not applicable. If you do not use Outlook 2003 as your primary email client, you can skip Step I and proceed directly to Step II.

STEP I – Back up Outlook Files.

1.  Open Outlook.

2.  Click File -> Import and Export...

3.  From the list, choose Export to a file, and then click Next.

4.  Choose Personal Folder File (.pst), and then click Next.

5.  Select Personal Folders or Outlook Today from the list.

6.  Check the box next to Include subfolders, and then click Next.

7.  Click Browse. In the Open Personal Folders dialog box that opens:

      • Choose Desktop in the drop-down list next to Save in.
      • Next to File name, type a name for your file.

8.  Click OK.

9.  Beneath Options, choose Replace duplicates with items exported.

10. Click Finish.

11. In the Create Microsoft Personal Folders dialog box that appears next, type Copy of Personal Folders next to Name, and choose No Encryption beneath Encryption Setting.

12. Click OK

13. Depending on the size and quantity of your files, it may take several minutes to create the backup. Once the backup is created, open the file to ensure that it was created successfully by opening Outlook and clicking File -> Open -> Outlook Data File.

14. In the Open Outlook Data File dialog box that opens, choose Desktop from the Look in drop-down list.

15. Select your file, and then click OK.

16. A folder called Copy of Personal Folders (or whatever name you entered in step 11) will open in your Outlook folder list, in the left pane.

17. Expand the folder to check that your files copied correctly. You are ready to install Oracle Connector for Outlook.

If you have previously setup mail rules, take the following steps to export the rules prior to installing Oracle Connector.

18. From the Tools menu, select Rules and Alerts.

19. Click the Options button on the E-mail Rules tab.

20. Click Export Rules. In the File Name box, type the path and file name for the set of rules you want to export.

21. Click Save.

 

STEP II – Install Oracle Connector for Outlook.

1.  Close Microsoft Outlook if it is open.

2.  Download Oracle Connector for Outlook v 10.1.3.09 from ITS website at http://downloads.its.psu.edu

3.  Double click on the downloaded file from the Oracle Connector for Outlook link at https://downloads.its.psu.edu/download.cgi?os_type=Windows&prod=Cal_Sync_Connector

4.  Click Next.

5.  Enter your name and company, and then click Next.

6.  Click Next to let the software install to its default location.

7.  Select additional languages you wish to install (if any), and then click Next.

8.  Click Next and then Install to begin installation.

9.  Click Finish after the installation is done. The Configuration Wizard will open up automatically.


STEP III – Configure Oracle Connector for Outlook.

1.  Click Next at the Welcome screen.

2.  At the Profile Settings screen, if you have been using Outlook as your e-mail client you will see Outlook as a Profile.

3.  Click New.

4.  Add a name for the new e-mail profile to use with Oracle. It is suggested that you use your Penn State Access Account userid (for example, xyz123, where xyz123 represents your Access Account user id). NOTE: It is very important that you do NOT skip this step.

5.  Click OK.

6.  Click Next to advance to the next screen.

7.  At the Service Settings screen, enter the information below. When you have entered this information, click More Settings.

        Calendar

      • Server Name: cal.psu.edu
      • Account Name: Your Oracle Calendar Login. It should be your Access Account id (i.e. xyz123)
      • If you want your password to be stored, enter the password.

        Mail

      • Server Name : email.psu.edu
      • User Name : <your user id>
      • Incoming Mail Server Type : POP3

        User Information

      • Display Name: Your Name
      • E-mail Address: your PSU email address 

        Outgoing Mail (SMTP)

      • Server Name: smtp.psu.edu

8.  Check Remember Server Passwords if you want your passwords to be saved.

9.  Check Use same password for all servers.

10. Click More Settings.


11. In Incoming Mail tab, choose SSL for Secure Server Connection.

12. If you would like to leave mail on server, choose the Delivery option from the Drop down Menu next to Settings.

13. Check the Leave Mail on Server Box that appears.

14. Click OK.

15. Click Next.

16. Check to see if  the box next  to Set as Default Profile is checked. If it is not checked you will need to click on the box to check it.

17. Click Finish.

 

STEP IV - Configure Outlook.

1.  Start Outlook.

2.  You may be asked for your password, if you did not store it.

3.  Oracle will download your calendar from the calendar server. It will also download e-mail from the email server. This may take a while.

4. Do not be alarmed if you do not see all of your old messages after setting up the Oracle connector. This will happen because Oracle Connector is a new email profile. Follow the instructions below to import your old folders and messages to your new Oracle profile.

5.  Select Oracle – Your Userid from the left hand side menu and choose File -> Import and Export...

6.  In the Import and Export Wizard window, select Import from another program or file, and click on the Next button

7.  In the Import a File window, select Personal Folder File (.pst), and click on the Next button In the Import Personal Folders window

8.  Click on the Browse button to find the .pst file you created on the desktop in Step I. Select the file.

9.  Replace duplicates with items imported should most likely be selected. Click on the Next button.

10. Select Copy of Personal Folders (or the description you gave it in the Export procedures) as the folder to import from. Make sure Include subfolders is checked.

11. Select Import items into the same folder in: and make sure Oracle –Your userid is chosen from the dropdown list.

12. Click on the Finish button and wait for the import process to complete. This could take some time if you have a lot of data, emails, etc.

13. When the process is complete, all of your previous Outlook data should be updated under Oracle – Your userid (including email, Calendar events, Contacts)


To import your mail rules after installing the Outlook Connector:

14.  From the Tools menu, select Rules and Alerts.

15.  Click the Options button on the E-mail Rules tab.

16.  Click Import Rules.

17.  Locate the file you saved earlier, select it, and click Open.

 

Note: If you leave mail on the server, you might end up with copies of the email on the server (approximately past 15 days). You can either delete these copies from your inbox. Or you may use the Popsickle tool to remove the old downloaded email from the server, before Step IV.
