Configuring Thunderbird for the Penn State LDAP Directory

To configure LDAP settings in Thunderbird for both Mac and Windows operating systems.
1. Launch Thunderbird.
 
    (Note: be sure you have an active Internet connection first)

2. From Tools, select Account Settings...

3. Click on your psu email account in the left column of the window.

4. Click on Composition & Addressing under your account.

5. Click the option to Use a different LDAP server under When looking up addresses.

6. Click on Edit Directories.

7. Click Add.

8. For Name, you can enter any label you prefer.
    (e.g., PSU directory)

9. In the hostname, type ldap.psu.edu.

10. Type dc=psu,dc=edu in the Base DN field.

11. Set the port number to 389.

12. Click OK to close the add directory window.

13. Click OK to close the edit directories window.

14. Click OK to close the Accounts settings window.




Then,  to start using PSU LDAP directory:

1. From Tools, select Address Book.

2. In the Address Book window click Edit.

3. Click on Search Addresses...
  
    (Note: In the top/left corner be sure you have the PSU Directory selected in the pop-up list under Search in)

4. Enter the text to be searched for in the text box.
   
    (Note: Customize the search as desired, if needed)

5. Click on Search to conduct the search.


The results are returned in a list in the bottom pane.
You can then select the desired entry and click Compose to compose a message to that address.
