2.06a. I deleted my "www" folder. How do I create a new one?
Web FAQ → Section 2: Using ITS Web Space → 2.6. Common problems you may encounter. → 2.6a.
Q. I deleted my "www" folder. How do I create a new one?
A. Three steps are required:
-
Create your "www" directory.
Connect to the Personal server and create a new "www" directory in your personal space; see FAQ 2.4 for recommendations on how to connect to the Personal server. - Reset your Access Control List (ACL).
When you recreate a directory, it inherits its ACL from its parent directory. Right now the www folder in your home directory on the Personal server is not world readable, therefore no one can see your actual Web page. To fix this problem, you need to reset your ACLs (see FAQ 2.11 for more information about ACLs).You can reset the ACLs for your www directory by using the ITS Secure Server, https://www.work.psu.edu/. Click the ACL Reset option. This should reset the ACLs for all the relevant Web folders.
- Create an "index.html" file and put it in your "www" directory.
If you did not save a copy of your original index.html file, you can use one of the Penn State Personal Web Page Templates that are available.
