Please see our Laws, Policies, and Please see our Laws page for links to University policies and guidelines, copyright information and law-related Web sites. Copyright is an especially serious issue. Those who use copyrighted material without permission are subject to civil and criminal penalties under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, which is a federal law. These penalties can include major fines and even jail. The owner of the copyright can also seek civil damages as well. In addition, violators are subject to University penalties that include dismissal for students and termination for employees. Furthermore, the use of University Web pages to advertise a business is against University policy and is not permitted.
