Outlook 2010: IMAP Configuration

  1. Open Outlook 2010.
  2. Click File.
  3. Click Add Account.
  4. Select Manually configure server settings or additional server types.
  5. Click Next.
  6. Select Internet E-mail.
  7. Add the following:
    1. Name: (Ex. John Doe)
    2. Email Address: (Ex. xzy123@psu.edu)
    3. Account Type: IMAP
    4. Incoming Mail Server: email.psu.edu
    5. Outgoing Mail Server: authsmtp.psu.edu
    6. User Name: (Ex. xyz123)
    7. Password: Access Account ID password
  8. Click More Settings.
  9. Click Advanced tab.
  10. Set the Incoming Server Encryption Type to SSL.
  11. The Incoming Server Port number is 993.
  12. Set the Outgoing Server Encryption Type to TLS.
  13. The Outgoing Server Port number is 587.
  14. Click “Outgoing Server" tab
  15. Check “My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication” checkbox.
    Make sure “use same settings as my incoming mail server” is selected.
  16. Click OK.
  17. Click Next.
  18. Click Close when the Test Account Settings is completed.
  19. Click Finish.
