A. Once your Web space has been processed, you need your  Penn State Access Account, a computer, and an Internet connection.

Q. Can Penn State alumni apply for a personal Web space?

A. No, Web space on the Personal server (http://www.personal.psu.edu/) is reserved for use by Penn State faculty, staff and students. While you can't have Web space on this server, you can use one of the search engines (e.g. google or yahoo) to find out about commercial services for Web hosting.

A. The initial amount of space is allocated free of charge. Additional space is $0.08 per gigabyte per month plus a $10 processing fee initially and each time a request for a change in a user's space is processed. Departments, colleges, schools, other official units cannot get free space, but can purchase space through an ITS Charge Account (formerly P-account).  See the For-Fee Services web page for additional information.

A. Student space will remain active during periods of continuous enrollment and for six months after graduation. Personal space is kept active during the summer for students who are expected to return in the fall. where xyz123 is your Penn State Access Account user ID (this is a actually a short cut created for your convenience. The real address is http://www.personal.psu.edu/users/x/y/xyz123/).

A. If you applied for Web space as a college, department, or other official unit, you had the opportunity to select the last part of your URL on the application form. To see the list of department directories, go to the following URL:

A. If you applied for a Course On-line Account (COLA), your URL will be http://www.courses.psu.edu followed by the course, course number, and the instructor's user ID, as in the following example:

where art/art100_xyz101 is your course, your course number, and your Penn State Access Account user ID.

A. The answer depends upon the type of Web service you use.

Individuals - Personal URLs cannot be changed.

A. No. The basic home page that you first see was automatically posted by the server when your Personal Web space account was activated. This is a starting place for you as you begin using your Personal Web Space to support your educational program at Penn State. You are welcome to edit this default page we provide or you may create your own.

Personal Web space is stored in the "www" folder of Penn State Access Account holders' Penn State Access Account Storage Space (PASS) home folders. Some other types of Web space are stored in other folders of PASS as indicated below.
