How to Determine Mailbox Classification

 

To determine the client for a Penn State e-mail account please follow the steps provided.

  1. Go to psu.edu/directory in your web browser.
  2. Search for your user ID using the full listing option.
  3. Find address details of the “Mailbox” section.
    1. If a @mail.psu.edu, or @email.psu.edu address is present (example xyz5000@mail.psu.edu, or xyz5000@email.psu.edu) then an IMAP or POP configuration is utilized.
    2. If @_______.psu.edu appears (example xyz5000@ucs.psu.edu, xyz5000@ums.psu.edu), then the account is a departmental e-mail service.
    3. If a non-PSU e-mail address is listed (example joestudent@gmail.com, psustudent@yahoo.com, jstudent50@hotmail.com), then a third-party host is the e-mail service provider.
