Install Error Workaround

When attempting to install Presenter with Office 2010 you might see the following error:
Presenter 7 Install. Error 1603. Unable to detect PowerPoint

Here are the steps to correct this.

  1. Open the program Regedit.
  2. Navigate to the following location:
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\14.0\PowerPoint\Install Root]"Path"="C:\\Program Files\\Microsoft Office 2010\\Office14\\"
  3. Export only the key listed above.
    a. Click File.
    b. Select Export.
    c. Save the key to the Desktop.
    d. Click Save.
  4. Open the new exported key in Notepad.
  5. Edit the path by changing the first 14.0 to 12.0 (only change the first 14 in the path, not both)
  6. Save the file with your changes.
  7. Import the new saved file back into Regedit.
    a. Click File.
    b. Select Import.
    c. Select the key on the Desktop.
    d. Click Open.
  8. Presenter should now install correctly.

Here is an example of what you should be doing in step 6:

What you should see:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\14.0\PowerPoint\InstallRoot]
"Path"="C:\\Program Files\\Microsoft Office 2010\\Office14\\"

What it should look like after the change: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\12.0\PowerPoint\InstallRoot]
"Path"="C:\\Program Files\\Microsoft Office 2010\\Office14\\"
