SPAM Filters: Creating Client-Side Filters


A "mail filter" runs on the server-side of Penn State's incoming email servers scannng for and identifying spam. The mail will be analyzed, scored and flagged as spam based on the rules used for Penn State's email servers. This mail filter will insert mail headers, as noted below.

Note: Email messages will not be deleted before reaching users.

ITS recommends that users add/create filters based on these rules in their client-side email programs in order to filter/handle messages flagged as spam. The headers/rules are: X-PSU-Spam-Flag, and X-PSU-Spam-Level.
